Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic Social Teaching is a branch of Catholic teaching that focuses on social, economic, and ecological justice. It addresses the relationships between groups and societies, rather than individual or personal relationships. At Sacred Heart, we are committed to responding to the demands of Catholic Social Teaching locally, nationally and globally.  These principles permeate our curriculum, policies and actions.

Oscar Romero Award

We are proud to have achieved the Oscar Romero Award - Participator Level. At this level, we self-assess to see what we already do – how we live our mission as a Catholic community and whether we participate in any social justice awareness or promotion activities.

Mission Weeks

Missions focus on a range of Catholic Social Teaching principles and bring them to life in meaningful ways across the year, through practical action in school, the parish and the wider community. As children move through the school, they naturally grow in confidence and independence: younger pupils are supported through adult-led planning, while older pupils increasingly lead and shape the missions themselves. These experiences take different forms too, with some missions happening over a morning or a day, and others unfolding over a longer period.
