Chaplaincy & Prayer Leaders

Pupils and staff work collaboratively to enhance the schools' ethos, prayer and liturgy.

Prayer Leaders help to nurture the religious life of our school community. Currently, Prayer Leaders are drawn from Years 5 and 6. They are volunteers who have applied for the role.

Prayer Leaders’ Roles and Responsibilities

  • Keep RE focal areas up to date around the school and model and encourage pupils to engage with them.

  • Plan, deliver and evaluate acts of worship, both independently and with staff support.

  • Evaluate acts of worship to help improve future prayer opportunities.

  • Participate in Faith Club

  • Represent the school at various events, including:

    • Deanery Chaplaincy Days

    • Parish events such as the Memory Lane Club

    • Diocesan events such as the New Year Mass and the Southwark Advent Service at St George's Cathedral

Faith Club (Y5/6)

Faith Minister, Rob Hitchcock, visits the school each week to lead the Faith Club attended by the school's Chaplaincy Team (Prayer Leaders). Faith Club aims to develop a deeper understanding of prayer, Scripture, Gospel values, and Catholic Social Teaching principles. In the Spring and Summer terms, we open the club up to pupils in years 3 and 4.

Faith Club (Y1/2)

Teaching Assistant Mrs Jude leads the KS1 Faith Club each week. The group focuses on exploring the weekly Gospel in a deeper, age-appropriate way.

Altar Servers

A number of pupils each year volunteer to be altar servers. The training is led by teacher and Master of Ceremonies (MC), Mr Bush.

Altar servers play a vital role in the spiritual life of our Catholic school community. Being an altar server is a valuable opportunity for our pupils to grow in their faith and to serve others in the Church’s liturgy. As altar servers, they have the privilege of serving the altar, assisting with the preparation of the altar and communion elements, as well as performing other duties during the Holy Mass. They also help the congregation to pray by being good role models and setting a good example. We are blessed to have such devoted pupils, willing to serve the Lord, their school and church community in the worship of God in a prayerful and reverent manner.

Any child who has completed the First Holy Communion programme can become an altar server. Please talk to Mr Bush if your child is interested in deepening their faith and fulfilling their vocation to serve others by becoming an altar server.
