    Religious Education

    At Sacred Heart, we aspire all children to be confident in their faith. We aim to guide and foster the growth in faith of each child and to make RE lessons and worship special.  RE is a core subject and each class dedicates 10% of the timetable to the teaching of RE throughout the week.

    Each class has an RE focal area. The cloths match the Liturgical seasons and candles are used to focus thoughts and prayers during RE lessons and worship. Each class has age appropriate RE books and age appropriate Bibles so that they can access and understand relevant scripture.

    Prayer Leaders

    We have a dedicated chaplaincy team called the 'Prayer Leaders'.   Prayer Leaders are volunteers who want to support and develop the Catholic life of the school and the teaching and learning of Religious Education.

    Their role:

    • To be a role model for others;
    • To serve the school and the community;
    • To support Miss Heffron and other adults in organising whole school events;
    • To work together as a team to carry out tasks as directed by Miss Heffron.

    Typical Prayer Leader tasks

    • Changing the liturgical cloth on class altars
    • Set up for Mass or assemblies
    • Support younger children during the offertory at Mass
    • Writing or leading prayers for Masses and assemblies
    • Represent the school at events in the borough or Deanery
