Frequently Asked Questions

Can non-Catholic families apply? Yes. Sacred Heart welcomes applications from families of all faiths and none. Places are allocated in accordance with our published admissions policy, so we encourage all prospective families to read the policy and contact us with any questions. We welcome enquiries and applications from all families and encourage prospective parents to visit our school to see whether it is a good fit for their child.

Do I need to attend church to apply? No. Families from a range of faith backgrounds, and those with no faith, are welcome to apply.

How do I know if Sacred Heart is the right school for my child? We encourage prospective families to visit us, meet our staff and pupils, and experience the welcoming atmosphere of our school as part of the application process.

Can I visit the school before applying? Yes. We hold regular tours across the school year and are happy to arrange an appointment if these dates are not suitable.

What does it mean to be a Catholic school? Our Catholic faith shapes our values, relationships and approach to education. We encourage every child to grow academically, socially and spiritually in a caring and supportive environment. Like all state-funded schools, we are inspected by Ofsted but as a Catholic school, we are also inspected by the Catholic Schools Inspectorate (CSI), which looks at how well we live out our Catholic mission, the quality of Religious Education, prayer and worship across the school.

Will my child be expected to take part in prayers and assemblies? As a Catholic school, pupils take part in daily prayer, liturgies and celebrations. We encourage all children to participate respectfully as members of our school community.

Will my child feel included if we are not Catholic? Yes. We are proud of our welcoming community and believe every child is valued, respected and encouraged to flourish. Our Catholic ethos shapes the values we live by - such as kindness, respect, service and compassion - which benefit every child in our community. We welcome families from all faiths and none, who choose Sacred Heart because they value these principles.

What makes Sacred Heart special? We combine high academic expectations with excellent pastoral care, strong values and a wide range of enrichment opportunities.
